Alright, so this week I decided to tackle the “Premiership Team of the Week” thing. You know, those lists that pop up everywhere after a weekend of games? I always thought, “Hey, I could probably do a decent job at that,” so I figured, why not actually try?
First things first, I watched as many highlights as humanly possible. I’m talking Match of the Day, Sky Sports clips, the whole shebang. Had to get a feel for who actually bossed it out there on the pitch.
Then I grabbed a pen and paper – yeah, I’m old school like that – and started jotting down names. Anyone who scored a screamer, made a game-saving tackle, or just generally looked like they were playing in a different league, went on the list.
Next up, the tough part: narrowing it down. You can’t just have everyone who played well, you gotta actually pick a team. I went with a 4-4-2 formation, because that’s classic, innit?
For the goalkeeper, it was a no-brainer. Pickford was immense in the Merseyside derby, that saves are incredible, so he made the cut.
The defense was trickier. I went for a mix of solid tackling and some who can actually ping a pass. So, I’ll be honest, I’m not sure if it’s the perfect balance, but I stand by my choices.
Midfield, I looked for players who controlled the tempo and chipped in with goals. A bit of steel, a bit of flair, you know the drill.
Up front, easy peasy. The guys who scored goals get in. End of story!
