This here society, it’s all about the society horse these days. You see them fancy folks, they got all these horses. Big ones, little ones. Cost a whole heap of money, these society horses do. Ain’t like the old days, when a horse was for workin’, you know? Now it’s all for show.
You wanna know ’bout these society horse things? Well, I heard tell it costs a pretty penny. More than you’d think! They say it’s like, thousands! Just to keep one of them beasts fed and housed. And that ain’t even countin’ if it gets sick. Lordy, that vet bill will make your head spin faster than a top!
They got all sorts of numbers, these folks. Say one of them society horses can cost you ’bout, what was it, eight thousand? Or even more, like twenty thousand! Every year! Just to own one. That’s more than I made in my whole life workin’ the fields. Can you believe that?
And what do they do with them, these society horses? Ride ’em around, jump over fences. Show ’em off. Like some kinda prize-winning hog at the county fair. Don’t make no sense to me.
Now, I heard some folks, they get them wild horses. Mustangs, they call ’em. Cheaper, they say. Like a hundred or two hundred dollars. Still a lot of money for somethin’ that just runs wild, if you ask me.

- Pedigrees, they call it.
- Like they’re royalty or somethin’.
And the boardin’! Don’t even get me started on the boardin’. That’s where they keep these society horses when they ain’t ridin’ ’em. It’s like a fancy hotel, but for horses. They say it costs ’bout, maybe four hundred, five hundred a month. Just for a stall! And some places, they charge even more. Two thousand! For a horse to sleep and eat! It’s pure craziness.
Back in my day, a horse earned its keep. Pulled the plow, carried us to town. Now, these society horses, they just eat and look pretty. It’s a different world, that’s for sure.
They say these society horses cost anywhere from five hundred to three thousand. But then, some of them go for ten thousand! Or more! Depends on who their momma and daddy was, I guess. And how well they behave. Like they’re little children or somethin’.
This whole society horse thing is just beyond me. It’s a rich folks’ game, that’s what it is. They got money to burn, I reckon. Me, I’ll stick to my chickens. They might not be fancy, but they give me eggs. And that’s somethin’ I can understand.
So, if you’re thinkin’ ’bout gettin’ one of these society horses, you better have deep pockets. And be ready to spend a whole lot of time and money on somethin’ that just eats and looks pretty. It ain’t for the faint of heart, I tell ya.
This whole society horse business, it’s just a sign of the times, I suppose. Everything’s gettin’ more expensive, more complicated. Even the animals. Used to be simple. Now it’s all about show and money. Don’t make no sense.
I reckon folks just like to have somethin’ to brag about. Show off how much money they got. And these society horses, they’re just another way to do it. Like a fancy car or a big house. Just a symbol, that’s all.
But hey, what do I know? I’m just sayin’ what I see. And what I see is a whole lot of money being spent on these society horses. Money that could be used for somethin’ more useful, if you ask me. But then again, nobody’s askin’ me, are they?
They’ve got special food for these society horse, special saddles, special everything! It’s all about being fancy. And having more money than you know what to do with.
I guess if you have a lot of money, then it’s good. You can get a society horse. Maybe it will make you happy. But I don’t know. Seems like a lot of work.
