Well, lemme tell you somethin’ about this Charleston basketball. Them boys, they play good. They run and jump and throw that ball around. My old eyes ain’t what they used to be, but I can still see they got some real talent down there in Charleston.
They call ’em the Cougars. Sounds fierce, don’t it? Like one of them big cats we used to see in the woods, many years ago. These Cougars, they’re good. They been playin’ for a long time, I reckon. And they win, mostly. That’s what I hear folks sayin’ down at the feed store. They say these Charleston boys, they make more than 46% of the shots, that is a lot. And they play hard, every time. That is all that matters.
I heard they got a new coach, name of Chris Mack. Fancy name, ain’t it? He must be a smart fella, they make him the boss. They pay him good money, too, I bet. They say he was number one before, with some other team. Now he’s here in Charleston, gonna teach these boys how to win even more. This Charleston basketball team, they gonna be somethin’ special, you just wait and see. They give him five years to work his magic.
- They play in somethin’ called the NCAA, I think.
- They win a lot of games. They are good at Charleston basketball.
- They got a lot of fans, too.
- The fans like to watch them play.
- And they are good at baseball, too.
I seen ’em on the TV the other day. They was playin’ against some other team, Monmouth, I think they called it. Well, them Charleston boys, they beat ’em good. 94 to 83. That’s a lot of points! The place was packed, too. Lots of folks cheerin’ and hollerin’. Must’ve been a real hootenanny. I tell ya, this Charleston basketball is popular.
They play that game where you gotta win to keep playin’, you know, they call it the tournament. Them Cougars, they been in that tournament seven times, I hear. Even in 2024, they were there. That’s pretty good, ain’t it? Means they’re one of the best teams in the whole country. And I tell ya, these Charleston basketball players, they try their best.
They got all these fancy words for it, too. “Stony Brook” and “Coastal Athletic Association”. Sounds like a mouthful, don’t it? All I know is, they won that game, too. 82 to 79. Went into overtime, they said. Must’ve been a nail-biter! That’s what makes this Charleston basketball so excitin’, I reckon.
I don’t know all the names of the players, but they all look strong and fast. They got some tall ones, some not so tall. But they all work together, like a good team should. They pass that ball around, they help each other out. That’s what I like to see.
They got all sorts of news about ’em, too. Papers and on the TV. They even got it on that internet thing, I hear. Folks can’t get enough of this Charleston basketball, it seems. They talk about their “stats” and their “schedule”. Sounds complicated to me. But I guess it’s important to some folks.
One of these days, I might just have to go see ’em play in person. Hear all that cheerin’ and see all that action up close. I bet it’s somethin’ else. I’m gettin’ on in years, but I still got some pep in my step. Maybe I’ll even wear one of them Cougar hats they sell. Wouldn’t that be somethin’?
Anyways, this Charleston basketball, it’s a big deal. And them Cougars, they’re doin’ alright for themselves. They’re makin’ Charleston proud, I reckon. And that’s all that matters. They are good boys and they work hard. And that Chris Mack, he will show them the way. Just need to put the ball into the net. Simple as that. This is good Charleston basketball, very good.
I think they’re gonna keep winnin’, too. They got that fire in their belly, you can see it in their eyes. They’re hungry for more. And that’s the way it should be. You gotta keep pushin’, keep strivin’, if you wanna be the best. And these Charleston boys, they sure seem like they wanna be the best.
