Okay, folks, let’s dive into my little adventure of making a Wemby Halloween costume for 2023.
So, the whole thing started with me seeing Victor Wembanyama, the basketball player, all over the internet. I mean, the guy is HUGE. I thought, “That’s a costume right there!”
Getting Started
First, I brainstormed. How could I even become Wemby? The main thing was the height, obviously. I’m no giant, so I needed a plan.
- Idea 1: Stilts. Okay, sounds scary, but maybe doable?
- Idea 2: Some kind of platform shoes? Less scary, but would it be enough?
- Idea 3: Just wear a jersey and hope people get it? Nah, too easy.
The Stilt Struggle
I went with the stilts. I figured, go big or go home, right? I found some used ones online – drywall stilts, apparently. They looked…intimidating.
Let me tell you, putting those things on was a two-person job. My friend helped me strap in, and I immediately felt like I was going to fall over. I took a few wobbly steps, holding onto the walls for dear life. It was…not graceful.
I practiced. A lot. I walked around my backyard, looking like a baby giraffe learning to walk. I almost fell into the bushes a few times, but I slowly got the hang of it. Kind of.
The Jersey and Details
Next up, the jersey. I ordered a Spurs jersey online – Wembanyama’s number, of course. I also got some basketball shorts and some long socks to complete the look. Easy stuff.
Then, I thought about the hair. Wemby’s got that short, cropped hair. Mine’s…not like that. So, I picked up a cheap wig that was kinda close. It looked a little ridiculous, but hey, it’s Halloween.
The Final Test
Finally, the big day arrived. I suited up. Stilts, jersey, shorts, wig…the whole nine yards. I looked in the mirror and…well, I looked tall. And a little bit ridiculous. But mostly tall.
I managed to walk, albeit slowly and carefully, to my friend’s Halloween party. People definitely noticed me. I got a lot of “Whoa!” and “Look at Wemby!” and a few “Are you going to fall over?”.
I even tried to play a little basketball. Keyword: tried. Let’s just say stilts and basketball don’t mix super well. But hey, I had fun, and that’s what counts, right?
So, that was my Wemby Halloween costume experience. It was a bit of a challenge, a lot of laughs, and definitely memorable. Would I do it again? Maybe. But I might need a bigger backyard first.
