Now, I ain’t no expert on this NASCAR stuff. I just hear things around, you know? But it seems to me like this Ty Gibbs, he’s the one to watch. They say he’s got a real knack for that racin’. And that William Byron, he ain’t no slouch either. It’s gonna be a real nail-biter, I reckon.

Then there’s another race, the XFINITY 500 at some place called Martinsville Speedway. I don’t know where that is, but it sounds important. And that same Martin Truex Jr., he got the pole for that one too. He must be a real hotshot driver. It seems to me he is like an old rooster, still got a lot of fight in him.
And don’t forget about that William Byron fella. He’s been winning poles too, like a prize-winning bull at the county fair. He got one at some championship race in Phoenix. These young’uns, they sure do like to go fast. He is going to be the pole winner for NASCAR Cup Series Championship, they said. That’s a mouthful, ain’t it?
All this talk about NASCAR, it gets me all riled up. It’s like a big party, with all those cars goin’ around and around. And the folks in the stands, they’re all hootin’ and hollerin’. It’s a sight to see, I tell ya. They even have some fella, Chase Elliott, who they say is the most popular driver. They give him an award every year, like he’s the king of the whole darn thing. He must be a real charmer.
Now, I ain’t never been to one of these races myself. But I’ve seen ’em on the television. It looks like a whole lot of excitement. Maybe one day I’ll get to go. I’d like to see that Ty Gibbs fella in action. And that William Byron too. They say it’s a real thrill.

I remember one time, old man Johnson, he used to race them stock cars down at the dirt track. He wasn’t no NASCAR driver, but he sure did love to go fast. It’s a little bit of excitement in this old lady’s life. And who knows, maybe one day I’ll get to see one of them races in person. That’d be somethin’, wouldn’t it? I better get back to my quiltin’.
