Moon Lantern Pixie in Baldurs Gate 3: What Happens If You Free It?

Okay, so I was stuck in this super annoying area in Baldur’s Gate 3, right? The Shadow-Cursed Lands. Everything is dark and gloomy, and these shadow creatures kept kicking my butt. I was getting wrecked, constantly reloading, and I was about to lose it.

Then, I remembered something about a Moonlantern. I’d heard it could protect you from the shadows. So, I started digging around, trying to figure out how to get one.

At first, I tried just exploring, hoping I’d stumble upon it. No luck. I was getting increasingly frustrated, dodging shadows and chugging potions like they were going out of style. I mean, the atmosphere was cool, but after a while, it was just stressful!

Finding the drider.

I finally decided to actually look for some help and found that I need to find a drider, a spider-man, carrying the lantern. I followed some goblins, fought, and finally got to him.

Getting the Moonlantern.

Here’s where things got interesting. When I finally caught up with the drider, I had to make a choice.

  • Fight him:I could go the straightforward route and just beat the crap out of him and take the lantern.
  • Convince him I’m a friend:It sounded tricky, but with my high charisma, I talk my way and get the lantern.

So, I tried to use my brain first, chose some clever dialogs, and got the lantern!

Freeing the Pixie.

Then I messed around with the lantern in my inventory, and guess what? There was a freakin’ pixie trapped inside! Her name was Dolly Dolly Dolly(yeah, a funny name), and she was the source of the lantern’s magic.

Now, I had another choice to make:

  • Keep the Pixie trapped:The lantern worked fine as it was.
  • Set her free:It just felt wrong to keep a magical creature locked up.

I set her free. I mean, who wants to be stuck in a lantern, right? It’s gotta be cramped in there.

Getting the Pixie’s Blessing.

And you know what? It totally paid off! Dolly Dolly Dolly was super grateful. She gave me a buff called “Pixie Blessing” that protected me from the Shadow Curse, no lantern needed. I equipped the bell in my quick items and rang it anytime the buff was about to wear off, and the buff went back up!

It was way more convenient than carrying that lantern around. Plus, I felt good about doing the right thing. Karma, baby!

So yeah, that’s my story about the Moonlantern and the pixie. I learned that with some talking, I can overcome the fight, and it pays to be nice to magical creatures in Baldur’s Gate 3, you get some sweet rewards.
