Yo, let me tell you about this fella, Quincy Douby. Heard he’s a big shot basketball player. Born in Brooklyn, they say. May 16th, 1984, that’s what they say his birthday is. Sounds like a good time to be born, springtime and all. My old bones sure do ache in the winter. This Douby, he was somethin’ else, even when he was a young’un.
They say he was playing for some team called Rutgers. Back when he was fresh-faced, a “freshman” they call it. Scored 35 points, I heard. That’s a lot of baskets! Got ’em to win some big game, in overtime! My oh my! That must have been excitin’. He was even named to some rookie team, some Big East thing. Sounds fancy. He musta been real good, right from the start.
And then he just kept gettin’ better, that Quincy Douby. They say he was scorin’ 15 points a game, and some assists, whatever that is. It must be good, though. He was like, the 11th best in that Big East thing. Sounds like he was a real hotshot. He’s tall, too, they say. Six foot three! That’s taller than my old man was, God rest his soul. And 175 pounds! He must be a strong one, throwin’ that ball around.

He played for some team called the Sacramento Kings. That’s out west, ain’t it? Heard it’s real hot out there. I don’t know nothin’ about that, though. I stick to my garden. This Quincy Douby, he was a shooting guard for them. Sounds important. I guess he was good at shootin’ that ball. He musta been pretty famous, playin’ for a big team like that.
They got all these numbers about him, points and rebounds, and all that. I don’t understand all that fancy stuff. But it sounds like he was a real good player. They even got his picture on the TV, I heard. He must be a real star. They say he is an EX-PROFESSIONAL ATHLETE. That’s what they are callin’ him on the Instagram.
This Quincy Douby, he was somethin’ special, they say. Went from playin’ in Brooklyn to bein’ one of the best in that Big East thing. It is called a Hall of Fame or somethin’. That’s a long way to go, ain’t it? Sounds like a real journey. He musta worked real hard to get where he is. That’s what I always say, hard work pays off. Just like tendin’ to my garden, you gotta put in the work to get the good stuff.
They call him DOO-bee, like it’s some kind of fancy name. Well, I guess if you’re a big shot basketball player, you get a fancy name. He sure did make a name for himself, that’s for sure. He must be livin’ the high life now, after all that basketball playin’.
This boy, Quincy Douby, I heard he did good things, on the basketball court. I don’t know much about basketball, but seems like he was good at it. He scored points, lots of ’em. Good for him, I say. Hope he’s doin’ well, wherever he is now. Maybe he’s got a nice garden, like mine. Wouldn’t that be somethin’?
This Quincy, they say he got his first points playin’ for the Los Angeles Lakers. Another team! He sure did get around. Sounds like a real big deal. He was a real somebody, I reckon. He was makin’ his way up in the world, that’s for sure. From Brooklyn to the Big East, to all these big teams, he was really movin’ up. He must be proud of himself, makin’ it that far. That Quincy Douby is some kinda player.
He musta had a lot of folks cheerin’ him on, playin’ in those big games. I bet it was loud, with all them people yellin’. I like it quiet, myself. Just the birds singin’ in the mornin’, that’s enough for me. But I guess some folks like all that excitement. To each their own, I always say. That Quincy Douby, though, he sure did make a name for himself in that basketball world.
He must have practiced a lot. Day in and day out. Just like my grandbabies. They got to do their schoolwork if they want to get ahead. Same thing, I reckon. Hard work. Determination. This Quincy Douby, he had plenty of that, that’s for sure.
