The Calculator Drama
Grabbed my phone first. Typed 30 divided by 40 real quick. Calculator shows 0.75. Okay, so is that 75%? Probably? Felt too simple though. Decided to mess around. What if I wanted it out of 50 instead? Did 30 divided by 40 is 0.75, then multiplied that by 50? Got 37.5. Wait, that seems messy. Why’s 37.5 outta 50 the same as 30 outta 40? My head started spinning.
Tried another way. Broke it down into smaller parts. Since 40 divided by 4 equals 10, right? So maybe find what part of 10 is equivalent?
- 30 divided by 40 same as 3 divided by 4? Because you cut both in half? Or actually… divide both by 10? Got confused here.
- Wrote it down: 30/40 = 3/4. Yeah. Better. Three-quarters.
- Now everyone knows three-quarters is like, seventy-five cents of a dollar. So… 75%!
Felt stupid obvious once it clicked. But still scribbled it: (30 ÷ 40) × 100 = 75. Done. 30 out of 40 really is just 75%. Why’d it seem so complicated before?
The Tangent About My Messy Desk
This whole thing reminded me why I started organizing those notebooks in the first place. My desk is a catastrophe. Seriously. Found:
- A half-eaten granola bar from last Tuesday (gross)
- Three empty coffee mugs (not sure which day)
- Random sticky notes with phone numbers and no names (useless)
Honestly, trying to find anything useful on there? About 30% success rate. Maybe 40% on a good day? Terrible. Should probably aim for 75% efficiency too. Like 30 out of 40 things actually being relevant? Would be a start.
