Okay, so today I wanna talk about the 2017 Daytona 500. Man, what a race that was! I remember it like it was yesterday. I was glued to the TV the whole time, and boy, did it deliver some serious excitement.

So, I started the day, as always, by checking out all the pre-race buzz. All about the drivers, you know? Who was looking good, who was struggling, that kind of stuff. It’s funny to look back at these things, after the race is over.
Then came the qualifying. I watched the single-car qualifying sessions and that was already pretty intense. These sessions are crucial because they set up the lineups for the Duels, which was pretty cool to watch on Tuesday night. Drivers finishing in an odd-position on the speed chart (first, third, fifth, etc.) were lined up for Duel 1, and those from an even-position (second, fourth, sixth, etc) raced in Duel 2. Each duel was 60 laps long, and let me tell you, it was a wild ride!
And then, the main event, the Daytona 500! From the get-go, it was a nail-biter. There were so many lead changes, and the tension was just through the roof. It was a crazy race. You had these moments where you thought one guy was gonna run away with it, and then boom, someone else would come out of nowhere. They changed the lead back and forth, back and forth. It was hard to keep up at some points!
I specifically remember one of the biggest upsets in the sport’s history. It was in 1990, Derrike Cope won the race after Dale Earnhardt, who was dominating by leading 155 of 200 laps, fell from the lead due to a punctured tire just half a lap from the finish. Cope just scooted past him and notched his first victory. What a moment that was!
The final laps were just insane. You had guys going three-wide, four-wide, all trying to get to the front. It was just a total free-for-all, and I was on the edge of my seat the entire time.

And then, in a crazy turn of events, William Byron won the race under caution after a frenetic next-to-last lap. The whole race was nuts, but the way it ended was even wilder. I was yelling at the TV, jumping up and down, the whole nine yards. It was such a wild finish!
What I Learned
- The Daytona 500 is always unpredictable.
- Qualifying and Duels are super important for the main race.
- The last few laps are always the most intense.
- Under caution finishes can be just as exciting as regular finishes.
All in all, the 2017 Daytona 500 was one for the books. It had everything you could want in a race – drama, excitement, and a whole lot of surprises. I’ll definitely be watching it again and again. And this is why I love NASCAR! It’s the best sport ever.
